Kyle O’Quinn

The New York Knicks have a critical decision to make on the Kyle O’Quinn front. He’ll be a free agent during the summer of 2018, and the working theory is that the Knicks could struggle to re-sign him now that teams have been made aware of his value.

As the trade deadline nears and the Knicks are forced to make a decision about their future with O’Quinn, an elite contender is looking to acquire his services.

O’Quinn came to New York as a polarizing figure who couldn’t seem to stay on the court with the Orlando Magic. He’s developed into a genuine two-way player who has the ability to alter the pace of a game with his contributions.

According to Ian Begley of ESPN New York, one of the teams that has expressed interest in acquiring O’Quinn is the Golden State Warriors.

"Starting center Enes Kanter and backup center Kyle O’Quinn also have received interest from opposing executives, sources said, with members of the Golden State Warriors among those executives to express interest in 27-year-old big man O’Quinn."

The Warriors have an embarrassment of riches as far as talent is concerned, but their last remaining flaw is one that O’Quinn would address.

Golden State currently ranks No. 26 in the NBA in second chance points, No. 29 in opponent second chance points, and No. 26 in points allowed in the paint. That displays the need for a rim protecting rebounder who can help control the interior.

If the Warriors are willing to part with their first-round draft pick, moving O’Quinn could be a justifiable move ahead of the trade deadline.
