Knicks Trade Rumors: Pros and cons of trading for Kemba Walker
Pro: Elite Dribble Penetration
The New York Knicks have a number of skilled players on the current roster. Collectively, the Knicks have built a rotation that rebounds, posts up, facilitates, and even shoots the three-ball with some measure of effectiveness, albeit with something left to be desired.
The area in which the Knicks continue to struggle, however, is creating consistent penetration from the point guard position—an issue Kemba Walker would certainly address.
Walker ranks No. 12 in the NBA in points via drives per game, which is reason enough to be intrigued. He’s doing so on 54.1 percent shooting, which is a better mark than all but one player who’s averaging at least 7.0 points via drives per game.
The ultimate perspective is the one qualified player who’s shooting better than Walker on drives: LeBron James.
As for New York, it currently ranks No. 29 in the Association in points via drives per game as a team. Thus, it’s hard to view Walker as anything other than the perfect fit for an organization in desperate need of a slashing scorer.
Walker scores with both volume and efficiency on the drive, and the Knicks check neither of those boxes as a team. Enough said.
