Knicks Trade Rumors: Well-known players who are reportedly available
How It Impacts The Knicks
While Jordan Clarkson would be the perfect sixth man, Evan Fournier would likely be able to crack the starting lineup. That’s based more on need than Clarkson being unqualified, as Fournier has the tools to play both shooting guard and small forward.
The question is: Would the New York Knicks be able to justify acquiring the $68 million that Fournier is owed through 2020-21?
Fournier has proven to be an efficient scorer since arriving in Orlando, averaging 16.5 points per game between 2015-16 and 2017-18. He’s done so while posting an efficient slash line of .452/.381/.831, which should translate to a situation with more help.
Working alongside Tim Hardaway Jr., Kristaps Porzingis, and fellow Frenchman Frank Ntilikina, Fournier would have a significant measure of pressure alleviated from him.
On the plus side, Fournier can space the floor, attack off the bounce, and even create for others when his number is called. The downside, however, is that Fournier makes an average of $17 million per season while playing subpar defense.
The odds are against the Knicks trading for Fournier, but contract aside, he would be an outstanding fit in Jeff Hornacek’s offensive system.
