How It Impacts The Knicks

The New York Knicks have a well-rounded perimeter scoring threat in starting swingman Tim Hardaway Jr. The working theory around the New York, however, appears to be that the Knicks need a guard who can create consistent penetration.

If the Knicks are willing to work with Jordan Clarkson’s defensive inconsistency, he could be the player who fills the team’s most significant void.

Clarkson’s season averages translate to marks that will instantly capture a scout’s attention. He’s putting up 21.8 points, 4.8 assists, 4.3 rebounds, 1.3 offensive rebounds, 1.1 steals, and 2.0 three-point field goals made per 36 minutes.

Perhaps most importantly, he’s a crafty slasher who’s averaging 4.7 points via drives per game and 7.4 points via drives per 36 minutes.

The need for a penetrating playmaker would be addressed by adding Clarkson, who’s shooting 51.6 percent on drives. He isn’t exactly efficient from distance, but he would help New York better its dead last ranking in three-point field goals made per game.

Clarkson’s poor defense must be taken into account here, but he’s a proficient scorer who has the potential to one day win Sixth Man of the Year.
