JaMychal Green, Memphis Grizzlies

Experience: 4th Season

The Memphis Grizzlies expected to build upon their active streak of seven consecutive postseason appearances. Instead, Memphis is so far below .500 that, in early January, it already seems impossible for it to climb back into the postseason discussion.

If any team can turn their season around without a moment’s notice, it’s the Grizzlies—but that doesn’t mean it’s not worth looking into who they’re willing to trade.

Green may not be an obvious target, but he’s a stretch 4 who would diversify the Knicks’ offense. Standing at 6’9″ with a near 7’3″ wingspan, he’s an athletic big who shot 38.2 percent from beyond the arc in 2016-17, and is more than capable of converting from the post and playing above the rim.

Green has struggled as an overall player, but that may actually work more to the Knicks’ benefit than to their detriment moving forward.

If it comes to the point where the Knicks give up on the postseason and the Grizzlies double down, Green could help Scott Perry unload salary. He’s in the first season of a two-year contract, with the second year coming in at an estimated $7.9 million.

If New York can clear up cap space by trading for Green, it may be worth it. It’s unlikely to transpire, but it’s still worth acknowledging as an option.
