A new wave of players will be eligible to be traded on Monday, Jan. 15. Which potentially available players should the New York Knicks be keeping an eye on?

The New York Knicks are one of 30 teams approaching a date that will alter the trajectory of the 2017-18 NBA regular season. As of Monday, Jan. 15, a small subset of players who meet a specific criteria when they re-signed with their previous teams in 2017 will become eligible to be traded.

As the Knicks weigh their options on the postseason and NBA Draft fronts, it stands to reason that knowing who’s on the market would work in their favor.

Some of the players who will become eligible to be traded are: Blake Griffin, Jrue Holiday, Serge Ibaka, Andre Iguodala, Joe Ingles, Kyle Lowry, Otto Porter Jr., and Andre Roberson. Every one of those players would be of great value to the Knicks, but it’s unlikely that they’ll be made available.

Thus, rather than including those players in this discussion, this article has limited the conversation to those who could realistically end up on the market.

In some instances, the players haven’t been living up to the hype of their new contracts, but could benefit from a change of scenery. In others, their teams have struggled to win games, and may be looking to unload salary as they prepare for a rebuild.

The question is: Which soon-to-be-eligible players should the New York Knicks be scouting in anticipation of a potentially opportunity to acquire a new talent?
