Rumor: Courtney Lee Garnering Interest

The New York Knicks are proving to be one of the most resilient teams in the NBA. One of the primary reasons that Knicks have been able to overcome injuries, seemingly insurmountable deficits, and youthful inconsistency has been the presence of veteran swingman Courtney Lee.

According to Ian Begley of ESPN New York, rival executives have caught wind of just how valuable Lee can be.

"On that front, opposing teams continue to show interest in Lee, per league sources."

This report was admittedly released on Dec. 7, but Lee’s quality of play in the days that have followed only strengthens the interest from around the NBA.

Lee, 32, is currently averaging career highs in points (13.1), rebounds (3.5), assists (2.7), steals (1.4), and three-point field goals made per game (1.6). He’s doing so on a remarkably efficient slash line of .470/.431/.944.

Thus, it comes as no surprise that rival executives are intrigued by the possibility of adding the reliable veteran to a contending roster.

Considering Lee was voted by his teammates as a co-captain for the 2017-18 season, it’s unlikely that the Knicks will trade him. It’s also worth noting that Lee is under contract through 2020 on an affordable and team-friendly deal with a remaining $36,761,340.

It’s plausible that the Knicks could be convinced to part ways with Lee, but for the time being, it’s hard to imagine any type of trade being made.
