Courtney Lee

The New York Knicks have burdened Courtney Lee with the responsibility of filling Tim Hardaway Jr.’s shoes during the former Michigan Wolverines star’s injury absence. Lee has done a more than respectable job during that time, building upon what was already a career-year.

Against the Oklahoma City Thunder, Lee overcame an unfavorable matchup against an elite defensive perimeter by anchoring the perimeter scoring attack.

Lee stepped up with a second consecutive 20-point game, following the 27 he posted against the Brooklyn Nets with 20 against the Thunder. He added five rebounds, two assists, two steals, and an offensive rebound in 32 minutes of reliable play.

Despite matching up against the likes of Paul George and Andre Roberson, Lee managed to shoot 5-of-12 from the field, 3-of-6 from beyond the arc, and 7-of-7 from the free throw line.

Lee entered the clash with Oklahoma City with career-best averages in points, rebounds, assists, steals, and three-point field goals made per game. With Kristaps Porzingis out and Hardaway still sidelined, he proved that his career-year isn’t a product of his surroundings.

Head coach Jeff Hornacek has been publicly encouraging Lee to look for his shot, and his performance against Oklahoma City was a shining example of what can happen when he does.
