New York Knicks: Who stepped up against the Memphis Grizzlies on Dec. 6?
Lance Thomas
Prior to the clash with the Memphis Grizzlies, the New York Knicks announced the decision to start Lance Thomas at small forward over Damyean Dotson. The decision paid off, as Thomas continued to establish himself as one of the most valuable players on the roster.
That may seem like a hyperbolic statement considering Thomas isn’t exactly known for his production, but it continues to prove true when the Knicks lock in on defense.
Thomas finished the win over Memphis with eight points, four rebounds, an offensive board, and an assist in 32 invaluable minutes. He shot perfectly, going 2-of-2 from the field, 1-of-1 from beyond the arc, and 3-of-3 from the free throw line.
Even more important than the basic statistics is the fact that the Knicks outscored the Grizzlies by 26 points when Thomas was on the court.
Thomas continues to be the glue to the Knicks’ otherwise disconnected defense. His effort is infectious, his versatility has simplified the game for the coaching staff, and his raw tenacity has reflected the golden years of the franchise.
Tim Hardaway Jr. will replace Thomas in the starting lineup in roughly two weeks, but Thomas will continue to be a featured member of Hornacek’s rotation—and with good reason.
