The Los Angeles Clippers appear to have moved on from the idea of building with DeAndre Jordan. Should the New York Knicks bring Jordan to The Mecca?
The New York Knicks have created a roster with a surplus of centers. Enes Kanter and Kyle O’Quinn are the most consistently utilized players in the rotation, Joakim Noah has three years and roughly $55 million remaining on his contract, and Willy Hernangomez has alluring upside.
True as that may be, as the trade rumors begin to swirl around the NBA, it’s the center position that’s grabbing the most attention.
Perhaps the most high-profile player to surface on the open market is Los Angeles Clippers center DeAndre Jordan. A three-time All-NBA honoree, Jordan appears to be a casualty of Blake Griffin’s injury and the Clippers’ general instability.
According to Tim Bontemps of The Washington Post, Jordan has come up in trade conversations with multiple franchises.
"DeAndre Jordan, who can become a free agent after the season, has been coming up in trade conversations, with multiple teams talking potential trades."
Nothing appears to be imminent, but recent events line up with why Los Angeles would be willing to change their tune on Jordan being a, “Clipper for life.”
Los Angeles (8-11) recently lost franchise player Blake Griffin to a knee injury that could keep him sidelined until February. That wouldn’t normally be reason to trade an All-NBA center, but Jordan will be eligible for free agency this coming summer, and the Clippers are eyeing the reset button.
The question is: Should the New York Knicks be the franchise that takes DeAndre Jordan off of the Los Angeles Clippers’ hands in 2017-18?
