New York Knicks: Who stepped up against the Houston Rockets?
Damyean Dotson
The New York Knicks essentially admitted defeat during the closing stages of the third quarter. Thankfully, the decision to go to the bench and trust the younger generation of players resulted in shooting guard Damyean Dotson flashing his potential.
A second-round selection in the 2017 NBA Draft, Dotson turned a rare opportunity to play into a stellar display of his offensive potential.
Dotson finished the loss to Houston with nine points, three rebounds, and one assist in 17 minutes of court time. He shot 4-of-5 from the field and 1-of-1 from the free throw line, doing most of his damage against the Rockets’ starting backcourt.
It may have come after the Knicks collapsed on defense, but Dotson’s has a valuable ability to put points on the board in a versatile manner.
Coming out of college, Dotson was pegged as a sharpshooting wing who could defend multiple positions. He’s proven to be a more dynamic scoring threat than expected, flashing that potential during Summer League and preseason play—and now against Houston.
Dotson received garbage time minutes, but against high-quality players and starters whom Mike D’Antoni asked to run up the score, he played well.
