Player To Watch: Tim Hardaway Jr.

Once again, the player to watch is embattled New York Knicks shooting guard Tim Hardaway Jr. The $71 million man has been nothing short of disappointing through three games, and he’ll be the first person to acknowledge that as true.

If the Knicks are going to defeat any caliber of opponent, they’re going to need Hardaway to play better than a player who looks like he doesn’t belong in the NBA.

It’s only been a three-game sample size, but Hardaway is currently averaging 9.3 points, 1.3 rebounds, 1.3 assists, and 1.7 three-point field goals made per game. Most concerning of all is that he’s shooting just 24.3 percent from the field and 22.7 percent from beyond the arc.

Hardaway caught fire during the fourth quarter of the 111-107 loss to the Detroit Pistons, but he’s made just five of his 22 attempts from distance in 2017-18.

It’s worth noting that Hardaway scored 17 points in the Knicks’ preseason opener against the Brooklyn Nets. He also scored 13 points on 6-of-9 shooting against the Nets in the second of two preseason encounters, which creates some measure of optimism.

The question is: Will Hardaway build upon that preseason success or continue to struggle during the regular season?
