New York Knicks: Updated pros and cons of trading for Eric Bledsoe
Pro: Facilitating The Offense
The New York Knicks have a cast of unselfish point guards who are willing to get the ball to their teammates. Being willing and being able are two different matters, however, and the Knicks are sorely lacking in the latter regard.
If the organization decides that playing through the inconsistency isn’t the answer, then making a run at Eric Bledsoe could be a viable answer.
The top priority for the Knicks should be developing an identity on the defensive end of the floor. On offense, however, young teams generally suffer from inconsistent ball movement that occasionally slumps due to the egos at play.
One of the best ways to ensure that the ball will end up where it needs to be is to add a facilitator to the rotation—and Bledsoe qualifies well enough.
Bledsoe has averaged at least 6.1 assists per game in each of the past three seasons. He’s not exactly James Harden or Russell Westbrook as a distributor, but he contributes positively to the flow of the offense with his willingness and ability to get his team into their sets.
With experience as a point guard for head coach Jeff Hornacek, it stands to reason that Bledsoe could be the playmaker whom Kristaps Porzingis needs.
