The New York Knicks will play their first home game of 2017-18 on Saturday, October 21. What will the keys be to New York’s clash with the Detroit Pistons?

The New York Knicks began the 2017-18 NBA regular season on Thursday, October 19. The end result was a lopsided 105-84 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder, but there were reasons for optimism to be found in a generally dreadful showing.

Thankfully, the Knicks will have an opportunity to achieve a measure of redemption on Saturday, October 21 in the home opener against the Detroit Pistons.

New York struggled in the season opener, but the context of the performance was crucial to take note of. It was an emotional performance against one of the most talented teams and defenses in the NBA—a team led by reigning MVP Russell Westbrook.

It was also New York’s first encounter with former franchise player Carmelo Anthony, and Enes Kanter’s first game against his previous team.

This time around, the Knicks will have a chance to play an Eastern Conference foe on their home court. Victory will be a realistic goal, especially as the Pistons play the second leg of a back-to-back after encountering the Washington Wizards on Friday, October 20.

The New York Knicks are coming off of a subpar offensive performance in the season opener, but here’s what to watch for in the first game at Madison Square Garden.
