The New York Knicks will open the 2017-18 NBA regular season against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Thursday, October 19. What should you watch for?

The six-month layoff has finally concluded. Come Thursday, October 19, the New York Knicks will play their first regular season game since it defeated the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2016-17 finale on Wednesday, April 12.

While every season opener comes with a unique blend of optimism and tempered expectations, the Knicks are in a rare and uncommon position.

The Knicks will open the 2017-18 regular season against the Oklahoma City Thunder. That’s a tall task due to the presence of reigning MVP Russell Westbrook, three-time All-NBA honoree Paul George, and pick and roll specialist Steven Adams.

For as imposing a threat as those players may be, the story of the season opener will be Carmelo Anthony playing his first game against his former team.

Anthony spent seven seasons with New York, including the unforgettable 2012-13 campaign during which it won 54 games. In an improbable twist of fate, Anthony will open the 2017-18 regular season against his former team.

The question is: How can you watch the season opener and what should you expect to see from the New York Knicks?
