Michael Beasley

For all of the jokes that were made about his overt confidence, Michael Beasley has been terrific during the preseason. He’s provided well-rounded contributions that have been both uncharacteristic and a pleasant surprise.

Against the Houston Rockets, Beasley stepped up in a way that the New York Knicks expected him to: As an explosive and efficient scorer.

Beasley poured in 17 points, four rebounds, one offensive board, two assists, and three steals in 25 splendid minutes of action. He shot 7-of-11 from the field, 3-of-4 from the free throw line, and found ways to make an impact on both ends of the floor.

Generally expected to be a scorer who struggles on defense, Beasley is showing early signs of being a player who can make a positive impact on the game in multiple phases.

Beyond the numbers, Beasley made a concerted effort to play for his teammates. He made solid rotations on defense, was active in the passing lanes, and continued to display a surprising level of commitment to creating for others.

If Beasley’s preseason contributions and style of play carry over into the regular season, the Knicks will have a steal of a signing on their hands.
