The New York Knicks fell 115-107 to the Brooklyn Nets in the preseason opener, but a number of players provided strong performances.

The 2017-18 NBA season has officially begun for the New York Knicks. The regular season is still two weeks away, but the preseason tipped off with an intriguing encounter between the Knicks and the cross-city rival Brooklyn Nets.

Although the Knicks fell 115-107 to the Nets at Madison Square Garden, there were undeniable reasons for optimism to be found during the first preseason outing.

Jeff Hornacek debuted his new offensive system, and the results captivated fans from the opening tip. New York pushed the pace, spaced the floor, and utilized defense to create transition scoring opportunities—seemingly foreign principles a season ago.

It was only a preseason game, but if the pace and style of the Knicks’ offense were a sign of things to come, this team will be fun to watch.

Individually, a number of players made strong first impressions in 2017-18. Some were better than others, but the common theme throughout the game was New York’s roster locks performing at a relatively high level.

It will take time before individual success translates to team success, but the following New York Knicks players stood out during the preseason opener.
