1. Kristaps Porzingis, PF
For several years, Carmelo Anthony was the face of New York Knicks basketball. Following the recent trade of Anthony to Oklahoma City, however, Kristaps Porzingis is now stepping into his shoes.
Porzingis is entering his third season in the NBA, and will be expected to carry the load offensively in 2017-18. Last season, the Latvian big-man made big strides, averaging 18.1 points per game to go along with 7.2 rebounds and 2.0 blocks.
That’s quite impressive when one considers that Porzingis just turned 22 years old.
With no Carmelo Anthony or Derrick Rose controlling the basketball, the touches will heavily increase. It’s realistic to think Porzingis could make his first All-Star Game appearance this upcoming season.
It helps that guys like Carmelo Anthony, Jimmy Butler, Paul George, and Paul Millsap all left the Eastern Conference.
Porzingis didn’t shy away from showing us his improved physique through social media, with constant workout videos and pictures. He also was nearly unstoppable at EuroBasket over the summer.
The 7’3″ phenom is clearly the best player on the Knicks roster for this upcoming season. There should be no more trade rumors, no more exit-meeting drama; just Porzingis dominating on the court.
