Pro: Facilitating Ability

For all that Trey Burke has done poorly in the NBA, his ability to put his teammates in a position to score remains intriguing. He boasts a career averaged of 5.3 assists per 36 minutes, including the 6.3 assists per 36 minutes he averaged as a rookie.

As the New York Knicks attempt to find an ideal balance on offense, Burke’s court vision and passing could be valuable tools.

In addition to producing respectable facilitating numbers, Burke has done an excellent job of taking care of the ball. He boasts a career average of just 2.1 turnovers per 36 minutes, which puts his struggles into perspective.

Burke hasn’t been able to finish at the rim with any consistency whatsoever, but he’s displayed an ability to create for others without turning the ball over.

A career assist-to-turnover ratio of 2.54 is not only above-average, but a sign that there’s talent to develop. Burke will need to improve upon his flaws, but head coach Jeff Hornacek would already have a foundation to build off of.

If Burke is willing to accept that he has flaws that need to be addressed, then he can still develop into a quality all-around offensive player.

There’s little more than untapped potential here, but the New York Knicks are in a position to explore that upside with the commitment to the current youth movement.
