New York Knicks: A way too early 2018 NBA Mock Draft
A growing belief existed in the weeks leading up to the 2017 NBA Draft that Rodions Kurucs could be a late lottery pick. Most projections had him closer to the 20-to-25 range, but he possessed the combination of size and skill that most teams covet.
If the New York Knicks end up losing Carmelo Anthony, then drafting a small forward like Kurucs could be an ideal turn of events.
Kurucs, 19, is a 6’8″ small forward who has been receiving valuable pro-level experience. He plays for the FC Barcelona second team, where he’s being groomed for a role as one of the featured players on the main roster.
There’s still reason to believe that Kurucs will be unable to justify the hype, but the combination of talent and size is intriguing enough for a Round 1 grade.
From the minimal film that’s been revealed, it appears as though Kurucs has the tools to be a stretch 4, if not a traditional 3. He has a high release point on his jump shot, is capable of playing above the rim, and has a frame that should fill out over time.
2017-18 will be something of a proving ground for Kurucs, who has the physical tools and skill level to be a high-level contributor in the NBA.
