Pro: Physical Profile

The New York Knicks have created a roster that’s overrun by players who have more skill than athleticism. That’s not a bad way to build—see: the Golden State Warriors—but the dynamic would change for the better with a wing who can physically overwhelm teams.

Archie Goodwin has the physical profile of a player who can fill that void, and thus transform the Knicks’ offensive and defensive execution.

Goodwin has prototypical, if not elite, physical measurements at 6’5″ and 205 pounds with a 6’10” wingspan. He’s also an explosive leaper who has no trouble playing above the rim—whether there’s someone in front of him or not.

Coupled with his quick first step and his easily above-average speed and agility, Goodwin has the physical tools to be a force at the 2 spot.

The appeal with Goodwin is that he could be groomed to fill the Derrick Rose role in the long-term. Some may frown at the mention of Rose’s name, but had the former league MVP not faced the pressure of facilitating, his season would have been viewed differently.

Goodwin is a true shooting guard with an ideal build, which makes his physical tools and athleticism legitimate weapons that can be polished into something significant.
