Pro: Slashing Ability

The New York Knicks have a number of compelling scorers and playmakers on the current roster. Carmelo Anthony and Kristaps Porzingis are high-level players, Willy Hernangomez and Kyle O’Quinn can bully the interior, and Tim Hardaway Jr. and Courtney Lee are well-rounded scorers.

There are more names to add to that list, but the most critical flaw on the Knicks’ roster is the absence of a player who can consistently attack the rim.

Knowing this to be true, it comes as no surprise that Archie Goodwin is being targeted in free agency. His bread and butter is being able to attack off the bounce, and he’s been able to do so with some measure of consistency.

By introducing Goodwin to the rotation, New York would have a specialist who can create an invaluable balance in the way it attacks opposing defenses.

New York’s offense is likely to be based out of three areas in 2017-18: the low post, the high post, and the perimeter. The pick and roll should be a valuable tool, but having an individual player who can consistently get to the rack would be a great benefit.

Goodwin may not be as proficient at getting to the rim as Derrick Rose was in 2016-17, but he has upside as a slasher that may be worth exploring.
