The New York Knicks are reportedly interested in signing free agent shooting guard Archie Goodwin. What would he bring to the table?
Throughout the 2016-17 NBA regular season, New York Knicks fans questioned whether or not head coach Jeff Hornacek had a true sense of job security. Hornacek ran a system that wasn’t his own, engaged in a verbal battle with Carmelo Anthony, and struggled to get maximum effort out of his players.
As the 2017-18 NBA regular season approaches, however, the Knicks are displaying as firm support of Hornacek as ever before.
When New York introduced Scott Perry as general manager, just three Knicks officials were featured at the press conference: Perry, president Steve Mills, and Hornacek. Weeks later, it appears as though the organization is committing to Hornacek with its roster decisions.
According to Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN, the Knicks have expressed interest in free agent shooting guard Archie Goodwin.
"Hearing that some in the Knicks front office see Jarrett Jack and Archie Goodwin as potential free agent additions at point guard."
Goodwin has extensive history with Hornacek that dates back to the underrated and relatively successful run they shared with the Phoenix Suns.
Being familiar with Hornacek is an undeniable plus, but there are other factors at work here for New York. Goodwin is as polarizing as he is promising, and that reality simply cannot be overlooked as the regular season nears.
The question is: What would the pros and cons be if the New York Knicks were to sign Archie Goodwin to what could potentially be a two-way contract?
