Knicks Rumors: Pros and Cons of potentially signing Jarrett Jack
Con: Career-Threatening Injury
Had Jarrett Jack never suffered a career-threatening knee injury, he’d likely be signed by now. He was one of the better point guards in the NBA before the 2015-16 ailment, but the timing of his injury is as concerning as the injury itself.
While it may be fair to give Jarrett Jack a second chance, the New York Knicks must be wary of his injury history and what it may entail.
Jack will turn 34 years of age in October and is coming off of a torn ACL. That combination of his age and his injury have created an undeniable possibility that he’ll be unable to return to the form he’d previously displayed.
Knowing that to be true, the Knicks may be wary of Jack and what signing him may entail—including an early minutes restriction.
The counterpoint to this is that the Knicks would sign Jack to a one-year deal worth the veteran’s minimum. Thus, the risk would be minimal and the injury history would be less of a concern due to the fact that he could be released with minimal penalty.
As the Knicks search for a veteran point guard to alleviate pressure from Frank Ntilikina, however, availability will be a key.
