Pro: Veteran Leadership
Talent aside, the New York Knicks have a number of respected veterans on the roster. Carmelo Anthony, Courtney Lee, and Joakim Noah have all spent a decade or more in the NBA, and the likes of Tim Hardaway Jr., Kyle O’Quinn, and Lance Thomas are regarded as great locker room guys.
The removal of Phil Jackson as team president has enabled the creation of a healthier environment, but that doesn’t make Jarrett Jack any less intriguing.
Jack is a 12-year veteran with 805 regular season games played and 343 career starts. He also has 24 games of postseason experience, including the 2012-13 campaign during which he averaged 17.2 points as the Golden State Warriors reached the Western Conference Semifinals.
Jack has played for seven different organizations, but maintaining employment hasn’t been an issue until his recent injury.
During the course of his 12-year career, Jack has earned the reputation of being a thoughtful player. NBA general managers believe he’ll go into coaching once his playing career is through with, which creates a unique sense of value.
The Knicks need as many leaders as they can find to guide the young core to a brighter future, and Jack certainly fits the bill.
