The New York Knicks have signed former Florida State Seminoles guard Xavier Rathan-Mayes. Why should you love the decision to sign the Summer League standout?

The New York Knicks will likely enter training camp with one roster spot remaining. With 15 players signed to the main roster and one player inked to a two-way contract, the Knicks have one last void to fill.

New York has addressed that issue by signing three undrafted free agents to potentially split time between the NBA and the newly branded G League.

New York made waves on August 17 by signing former Wisconsin Badgers hybrid forward Nigel Hayes. A day later, the signings continued with former Pittsburgh Panthers small forward Jamel Artis.

In a post to the organization’s official Twitter account, the Knicks announced the signing of a third player: Former Florida State Seminoles standout Xavier Rathan-Mayes.

This was the most quiet of the three signings, but that doesn’t make it any less compelling—or promising, for that matter.

Rathan-Mayes competed for New York at the 2017 Orlando Summer League. Following a successful three-year career at Florida State, he performed well enough for the Knicks to earn an opportunity to spend the 2017-18 season with New York and Westchester.

The question is: Why should New York Knicks fans love the decision to sign former Florida State Seminoles guard Xavier Rathan-Mayes?
