Carmelo Anthony’s Return?

Date: Wednesday, November 1
Opponent: Houston Rockets
Venue: Madison Square Garden

As it presently stands, the New York Knicks have Carmelo Anthony on the roster. Rumors are swirling that Anthony wants to play for the Houston Rockets, however, and those reports seem to gain more traction with every passing week.

In the event that Anthony is traded to the Rockets, it will only take six games before the former franchise player returns to Madison Square Garden.

It’s possible that Anthony won’t play for Houston in 2017-18, but this is a possibility that’s worth acknowledging. Anthony could be a member of the Rockets by the time the regular season begins, and Knicks fans could be divided again.

After seven polarizing years in New York, Anthony could return to Madison Square Garden as soon as November 1—and it’s hard to imagine what the response will be.

Anthony is one of the most popular players in New York, but 2016-17 was a strange season. Fans booed him for the very thing Phil Jackson criticized him for—holding the ball too long and stunting ball movement—but cheered him when his shot was falling.

Anthony deserves respect for what he gave the Knicks between 2011 and 2013, but the past four years have soured many on his tenure.
