5. A Reinvigorated ‘Melo

Throughout the 2017-18 NBA regular season, Carmelo Anthony looked the part of a deflated player. He was still an effective scorer and respected leader in the locker room, but the public feud with Phil Jackson created an unhealthy environment.

In the bevy of offseason workout videos that have been released in 2017, however, Anthony has looked inspired and reinvigorated.

Anthony is getting into incredible shape, and claims to have rediscovered his lost joy for the game. Knowing that to be true, it’s hard not to be intrigued by the possibility of a more motivated version of Anthony taking the court for the Knicks.

The vaunted 2012-13 NBA season is a shining example of what he’s able to do when his mind is focused exclusively on basketball.

Anthony losing his joy for the game—his words, not mine—is somewhat understandable after everything that transpired in 2016-17. The fact that he’s training in the way he is, however, is a sign of how ready he is to reclaim control of his career narrative.

There may be better teams for him to play for, but it’s with the New York Knicks that Anthony could best address the misconceptions.
