The New York Knicks have signed Michael Beasley to a one-year contract. Why should you be excited about the decision to sign Beasley?

The New York Knicks have continued the process of building a roster for the 2017-18 NBA regular season. With a core in place and a need for veteran depth remaining, the Knicks turned to free agency to give Michael Beasley a shot at a career resurrection.

Michael Scotto of Basketball Insiders was the first to report that the Knicks were negotiating with the former No. 2 overall selection.

Shortly thereafter, New York’s official Twitter account revealed that Beasley has officially signed with the Knicks.

Per Ian Begley of ESPN New York, the contract is a one-year deal worth the veteran’s minimum.

The signing of Beasley is one that comes late in free agency. With a week of August already passing, however, the Knicks have taken advantage of a quality opportunity to pad the roster with a talented veteran who has remaining potential to explore.

There’s no telling how this signing will pan out, but the reasons for optimism are intriguing to evaluate.

Fresh off of signing veteran point guard Ramon Sessions to a one-year deal, the Knicks have done the same with Beasley. While Sessions filled a positional need, Beasley is more of a pure talent gamble by the front office.

The question is: Why should you love the New York Knicks signing Michael Beasley to a one-year deal worth the veteran’s minimum?
