Pro: Veteran Leadership

As previously alluded to, the New York Knicks have built a young roster that will value the process of long-term building over immediate success. In order to help that young core develop, however, the Knicks will need to surround it with the right veteran leaders.

The likes of Courtney Lee and Joakim Noah will help in doing so, but that doesn’t make a player like Alan Anderson any less ideal to add to the roster.

Anderson has eight years of NBA experience and a unique measure of perspective. Not only is he an eight-year veteran, but he’s traveled the long road to a lengthy career—one that has made him an even more grizzled veteran than he may seem on the surface.

Anderson went undrafted in 2005, spent a year with the Charlotte Bobcats, spent the next season in the D-League, and proceeded to bounce around Europe and Asia.

Due to the fact that Anderson took the road less traveled, he can provide unique perspective on how much of a blessing it is to play in the NBA. He can help keep the younger players motivated during difficult stretches of the season, and stress the importance of commitment.

With a young core established and in place, all New York needs now is the ideal veterans to help build an identity that can last.

By signing Alan Anderson, the New York Knicks would have an opportunity to further along their attempts to do exactly that.
