Pro: Fitting The System

The New York Knicks are building around a core of Frank Ntilikina, Tim Hardaway Jr., Kristaps Porzingis, and Willy Hernangomez. The common theme with those four players is an optimistic hope that they can play within a scheme.

All four have also displayed an appreciation of the 3-point shot—Hernangomez is coming along—and all four have a history of team-oriented basketball.

Ntilikina, Porzingis, and Hernangomez have all come up through the European basketball circuit. During that time, they were coached up on the importance of spacing, ball movement, and trust among teammates in a systematic approach.

Hardaway Jr. experienced his best success with Mike Budenholzer and the Atlanta Hawks, which may as well be the NBA equivalent to European basketball.

With four unselfish players who value the ability to move the ball and shoot, Alan Anderson would fit in well. He’s a quality 3-point shooter and an unselfish team player who will buy in to whichever system is run.

Anderson may or may not be a franchise-altering signing, but his willingness to commit to the scheme can only help the younger players.
