Culture Change

Although James Dolan had to make the decision to fire Phil Jackson, he didn’t want to meddle in any more basketball affairs. Instead, he left his “right-hand man” in charge: Steve Mills.

When David Griffin withdrew his name from the general manager search, and when Scott Perry was ultimately hired, it was revealed that Dolan had virtually no conversation with any GM candidate; Mills did all of the work himself.

Even after Perry was hired, he confessed on national television that he didn’t meet with Dolan.

Perry stated that he, along with Mills, hopes to build:

"“A culture that demands results, commitment, and pride from everyone fortunate enough to be associated with [the] team. Nothing comes close to Madison Square Garden for basketball, and it is [the team’s] right and responsibility to showcase that tradition of excellence.”"

Perry has guaranteed that Porzingis will remain a Knick, and has already begun a remodel of the front office with the hiring of Gerald Madkins as the team’s assistant general manager from the Los Angeles Clippers.

Perry and Mills still have yet to establish themselves, but fans are excited about this new era.
