Portland Trail Blazers

The Portland Trail Blazers’ star players have made it public knowledge that trading for Carmelo Anthony is on the agenda. Anthony doesn’t currently have interest in going to Portland, but Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum are attempting to change his line of thinking.

If the Trail Blazers manage to convince Anthony to head to the Northwest, then the Knicks could add the missing piece to the promising young core.

The selling point here would be the Knicks getting an intriguing young two-way wing in Maurice Harkless. The 24-year-old Queens native stands at 6’9″ and 220 pounds, and finished the 2016-17 NBA regular season at No. 20 amongst small forwards in Real Plus-Minus.

Harkless also finished 2016-17 with averages of12.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 1.4 steals, 1.1 blocks, and 1.1 3-point field goals made per 36 minutes on a slash line of .503/.351/.621.

As for the other pieces, Ed Davis is a quality player on an expiring contract, and Meyers Leonard is a 3-point shooting big man who would provide continuity behind Kristaps Porzingis. It may not be the greatest of hauls, but after the Knicks plummeted Anthony’s market value, this could be a win.

By trading Anthony to the Trail Blazers, the Knicks would have promising 25-and-under players at all five positions: Frank Ntilikina, Tim Hardaway Jr., Maurice Harkless, Kristaps Porzingis, and Willy Hernangomez.
