New York Knicks: Five realistic Carmelo Anthony trade proposals
Cleveland Cavaliers: Option 1
The point of contention with any trade of Carmelo Anthony to the Cleveland Cavaliers is the potential inclusion of Kevin Love. Love could be a worthy addition by the New York Knicks, but he’s owed significant money and plays a position of strength.
Nevertheless, it simply can’t be denied that a straight up trade of Anthony for Love would work financially for both Cleveland and New York.
If the Knicks were to move Kristaps Porzingis to the center position, Jeff Hornacek would have the most offensively dynamic interior in the NBA. Both Love and Porzingis can pour in upwards of 18 points per game, and both can score either close to the basket or from beyond the arc.
Love’s defense is poor and Porzingis’ promising, just as Love’s rebounding is elite and Porzingis’ underwhelming—a fair balance of traits.
As for Cleveland, this trade would pair Anthony with close friend and four-time NBA MVP LeBron James. That dynamic duo could potentially convince Kyrie Irving to give it another year before he commits wholeheartedly to wanting to be traded.
The question is: Would the Knicks be willing to trade for Love’s three remaining years as it attempts to groom and develop Willy Hernangomez?
