1. Alleviating Pressure

The New York Knicks entered free agency with no priority higher on the agenda than finding a veteran complement to Frank Ntilikina. The incoming rookie has alluring upside, but the working theory is that he’ll need time to adjust to the pace of the NBA.

With Ramon Sessions in the rotation, the Knicks can bring Ntilikina and Randle along in a progressive manner that better fits their current respective levels of ability.

Ntilikina is a 6’5″ and 170-pound floor general with a 7’0″ wingspan and respectable athleticism. He’s widely regarded as the prospect with the highest defensive ceiling of any point guard in the 2017 NBA Draft, due to both his physical profile and his current working habits.

Ntilikina is also a respectable 3-point shooter and a quality distributor who could excel in both regards in the NBA.

Whether or not Randle comes into his own in 2017-18, Sessions can alleviate pressure from Ntilikina. If Randle proves to have a future with the Knicks, then Sessions’ expiring deal will make it possible to keep him in New York without convoluting Jeff Hornacek’s rotations.

Regardless of how the 2017-18 NBA regular season plays out, the Knicks have brought on veteran aid in a perfectly responsible manner.

Ramon Sessions may not be the flashiest of signings, but this is a rare example of the New York Knicks handing out a contract that will permit long-term flexibility.
