4. Postseason Success

To simply state that Kyrie Irving has postseason experience would be a criminal understatement. He may not have been the No. 1 player, but he stepped up with elite scoring numbers and became a champion with his clutch heroics.

As the New York Knicks prepare for the new era, having a young player with a championship pedigree would be the most ideal situation imaginable.

Kristaps Porzingis has intriguing potential, and the same can be said about Willy Hernangomez, but neither have reached the NBA Playoffs. Irving, meanwhile, has 52 games of postseason experience, including three trips to the NBA Finals.

Over the course of his past two postseason appearances, Irving averaged 25.5 points per game on a slash line of .472/.406/.890.

Coupled with the fact that he hit the title-winning shot in 2016, Irving’s postseason history is compelling. He not only scored at a borderline elite level, but he did so with magnificent efficiency—and proved to be clutch in every sense of the word.

By adding Irving to the roster, the Knicks would be getting a player who has proven capable of taking over games at the highest possible level.
