The New York Knicks have reportedly reached an agreement with Sacramento Kings vice president Scott Perry to take over as general manager.

The New York Knicks will reportedly promote general manager Steve Mills to the position of president of basketball operations. With Mills’ promotion comes a new opening, which has resulted in a flurry of rumors about who is and isn’t a candidate.

After unsuccessfully attempting to woo David Griffin to New York, the Knicks appear to have found the man for the job.

The negotiations with Griffin broke down when New York proved unwilling to allow him to hire his own staff. That may not have been such a devastating blow, as the Knicks have found an alternative option who, like Griffin, has earned a great deal of respect from around the NBA.

According to Vince Goodwill of CSN Chicago, the Knicks have reached an agreement with Sacramento Kings vice president Scott Perry to become the team’s new general manager.

David Aldridge of NBA.com reports that a deal has yet to be struck, but it’s trending in that direction.

Per Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical, the last remaining hurdle is the compensation Sacramento is seeking in return for losing Perry.

Nothing appears to be set in stone, but the hiring is all but imminent.

There’s no guaranteeing that New York and Sacramento will agree to the ideal financial compensation for Perry. It’s worth noting, however, that the Kings granted permission to Perry to pursue his dream job with the Knicks.

Knowing that to be true, it stands to reason that the two sides should be able to negotiate a financial agreement to complete this transaction.

Upon doing so, Perry would be cleared to officially accept the job as general manager.

Perry has nearly 20 years of experience as an NBA executive, including his tremendous tenure with Joe Dumars and the Detroit Pistons. He and Dumars built a Pistons team that won the 2004 NBA championship, made a second NBA Finals, and reached the Conference Finals six times.

Perry also played a role in the drafting of Kevin Durant for the Seattle SuperSonics, as well as Aaron Gordon, Victor Oladipo, and Elfrid Payton for the Orlando Magic.

Following what’s being regarded as a successful offseason for the Sacramento Kings, Scott Perry will look to carry that momentum over into his general manager role with the New York Knicks.

It’s all a matter of compensation.
