Following the news of Tim Hardaway Jr. coming back to town, the sense of pessimism amongst New York Knicks fans is a speeding freight train.

Being a player on the New York Knicks is usually a rough time with the media. Of course, fans have the right to feel ignored and disappointed, with less reasons being provided every year to tune in.

The Knicks usually play competitively before falling to shambles in the fourth quarter. It’s understandably a struggle on both sides for fans and the players.

However, a losing mentality can be easy to get pulled into with the tide of short-sighted criticism. Getting caught in the riptide of the Knicks’ losing culture is almost inevitable as a fan.

Sometimes, fans can even be as despicable as chastising Maurice Ndour for hitting a game-winning shot against the Philadelphia 76ers during the regular season finale.

Because of that shot, the Knicks dropped one spot in the draft lottery.

It proved inconsequential, as the Knicks had been eyeing Frank Ntilikina since early in the year.

Ron Baker was re-signed, and it has yet to be determined who will start at point guard for the 2017-18 season. This is the extent of the Knicks’ rebuild thus far.

As fast as Phil Jackson attempted dangling Kristaps Porzingis on the trade block, he essentially found himself exiled from New York just as fast.

We find ourselves now on the Steve Mills train. All aboard, fellow fans. This is the change in direction we were desperately asking for, right?

Perhaps for some fans, firing Phil Jackson didn’t deliver the feel-good craving we have desired. It came as a shock to many for the price tag that Tim Hardaway Jr. received for returning to the Knicks from the Atlanta Hawks.

It seems even Hardaway himself was just as surprised by the offer.

In turn, Steve Mills is already being hailed as the next Phil Jackson.

Trusting The Process

The $71 million dollar offer over four years is now official, and Tim Hardaway Jr. will likely remain a Knick for the next four years. They may have overpaid for the sixth man talent, as it’s questionable if Courtney Lee should remain the starter should he not get moved by Steve Mills.

However, Hardaway Jr. shows some promise to improve to be even better than he already is, and thats a gamble the Knicks deemed worthy of taking.

So which direction from here are fans to take this offseason? Honestly, fans should take a day off. Maybe the summer off from waiting for the Knicks to make a choice that would carry the support of the fans.

While Carmelo Anthony has supposed trade rumors with too many teams to lose count since the regular season there’s only one thing left to do.
