Knicks Rumors: Pros and Cons of pursuing Jeff Teague in free agency
The New York Knicks reportedly share mutual interest with free agent point guard Jeff Teague. Should the Knicks pursue the polarizing point guard?
The New York Knicks are undergoing significant changes as the 2017 period of free agency nears. Phil Jackson has been relieved of his duties as team president, and free agents are beginning to show interest in New York again.
As early reports surface of free agent interest in the Knicks, however, one can’t help but question if the interested parties are worth signing.
New York will attempt to steal Masai Ujiri from the Toronto Raptors, but for now, Steve Mills is the general manager. Thus, it should come as no surprise that the first rumored target is one whom Mills has been attempting to acquire for more than two years.
According to Ian Begley of ESPN New York, the Knicks share mutual interest with free agent point guard Jeff Teague.
"With Phil Jackson out and the triangle de-emphasized, the Knicks, under general manager Steve Mills, have interest in free agent point guard Jeff Teague, league sources told ESPN. League sources say the interest in Teague is mutual."
Teague has been on the Knicks’ radar for quite some time, and may finally join the organization as a free agent.
Although Teague was an All-Star in 2014-15, one could argue that 2016-17 was the best individual season of his career. He averaged 15.3 points and a career-best 7.8 assists to just 2.6 turnovers per game.
The question is: What would the pros and cons be of the New York Knicks signing Jeff Teague during the 2017 period of free agency?
