Analysis
Dominique Jones was once pegged as a potential steal of a selection in the 2010 NBA Draft. He was a first-round draft pick who became a well-known name at the collegiate level following his strong play at USF.
Seven years later, Jones is looking to make a comeback to the NBA—a dream that could be realized with the New York Knicks at Summer League.
Jones, now 28, is a 6’5″ and 216-pound shooting guard with a 6’9″ wingspan and a muscular frame. He was heralded for his scoring proficiency in college, which was justified by his career average of 18.9 points per game during three seasons at USF.
Jones wasn’t the most efficient of shooters, however, which is an improvement that will need to be seen if he’s going to make it work in New York.
Jones’ jump shot continued to be a weakness during his dominant campaign in the Iranian Super League. He won himself some fans in China, however, and went as far as leading the CBA in assists in 2015.
Jones should be fun to watch, but the areas in which he must show improvement are the same today as they were seven years ago.
