Analysis
The New York Knicks selected shooting guard Damyean Dotson at No. 44 overall in the 2017 NBA Draft. It was an intriguing decision by the front office to take a chance on a perimeter prospect with tremendous 3-and-D potential.
Between his lights-out jump shot and prototypical physical profile, Dotson has a chance to make a significant splash in the NBA.
Dotson converted 108 3-point field goals on 44.1 percent shooting from beyond the arc during the 2016-17 season. He averaged 3.4 3-point field goals made and 3.9 made per 40 minutes, and drained 2.5 per 40 minutes in 2015-16.
A legitimately elite 3-point shooter, Dotson should have immediate value to a Knicks team that ranked No. 24 in 3-point field goals made in 2016-17.
Standing at 6’5.5″ and 206 pounds with a 6’9″ wingspan and a 39.0″ max vertical leap, Those are sensational measurements for a shooting guard, as well as the ideal marks for a lockdown defender at the next level.
There’s no guaranteeing that Dotson will live up to expectations on either end of the floor, but he has the talent level to be a two-way force.
