The New York Knicks drafted Frank Ntilikina at No. 8 overall in the 2017 NBA Draft, but does that rule out re-signing Derrick Rose to a short-term contract?
Few decisions will weight as heavily on the New York Knicks during the 2017 period of free agency than whether or not to re-sign Derrick Rose. Some view it as a formality, and others a move that’s not worth considering.
Following the Knicks’ decision to draft a point guard at the 2017 NBA Draft, however, the conversation has changed.
New York selected point guard Frank Ntilikina at No. 8 overall in the 2017 NBA Draft. It was a surprising decision to some, but it displayed a commitment to creating a sense of stability at what’s recently been a position of weakness.
With Ntilikina projected as a long-term project for head coach Jeff Hornacek, however, the need for a veteran point guard may remain.
Rose is a polarizing individual, but he’s coming off of a somewhat resurgent 2016-17 season with the Knicks. He has his fair share of detrimentals flaws, but he also has areas in which he’s an appealing option for New York.
The question is: What would the pros and cons be of the New York Knicks potentially re-signing Derrick Rose during the 2017 offseason?
