The Utah Jazz may need to accept that Dante Exum isn’t going to live up the hype that surrounded him entering the NBA. He still has time to turn things around, but there have been minimal signs of Exum becoming even a starting-caliber player.

Derrick White may not become the full-time starter, but he at least has the tools to be a high-quality contributor within Quin Snyder’s underrated system.

White has elite size for a point guard at 6’5″ with a 6’8″ wingspan, and enough strength to play the 2. He’s comfortable working both with and without the ball, which is one of the primary asking points of Snyder’s offense.

If the Jazz re-sign George Hill this coming offseason, then White could provide similar contributions to what the oft-injured Alec Burks is meant to.

White can handle the ball and facilitate the offense at a respectable level, which is something Utah has been sorely lacking. He’s also a strong 3-point shooter who can move without the ball, find openings, and shoot off the catch.

The New York Knicks should have an eye on how far White falls in the 2017 NBA Draft, but if he’s available at No. 24, the Jazz need to scoop him up.
