The Atlanta Hawks traded Kyle Korver this past season, and thus far, they haven’t found an ideal replacement. That search could end as early as No. 19 in the 2017 NBA Draft with Adelaide 36ers shooting guard Terrance Ferguson.
Ferguson is a bit of a reach, but the Hawks swoop in and gamble on his viable star potential by picking him up at No. 19—terrible pun unintended.
Ferguson has elite size for the shooting guard position at 6’7″ with a 6’9″ wingspan. He’s also an explosive athlete, which is an element that Atlanta desperately needs in its fundamentally strong, but athletically limited rotation.
Ferguson will need to add significant muscle to his frame, but he has the physical tools to diversify the offense and develop into a lockdown defender.
Offensively, Ferguson has a solid 3-point shot that he’s comfortable stepping into and spotting up with in catch and shoot opportunities. His handles need to improve, but if he puts the work in, he can be a dangerous straight-line finisher.
The Hawks need to gamble on upside players if they’re going to escape basketball limbo, and Ferguson checks the box. The New York Knicks could be in play, as well.
