Technically speaking, Terrance Ferguson is an American player who shouldn’t be classified as an international prospect. He opted against withstanding the corruption of the NCAA, however, and instead chose to play professionally in Australia’s National Basketball League.

In turn, Ferguson surfaces as an explosive international option for the New York Knicks to consider if team president Phil Jackson manages to trade for a second first-round draft pick.

Ferguson will need to add significant muscle to his frame, but he’s young for his draft class and has a solid foundation. At the 2017 NBA Draft Combine, he measured as 6’7″ and 184 pounds with a near 6’9″ wingspan and an 8’7″ standing reach.

Athletically, he boasts a 38″ max vertical leap, which looks even better on film than it did at the Combine.

With elite height and ideal length for a shooting guard, Ferguson has the physical tools to be an ace defender at the next level.

Based on how selflessly he bought into the scheme in Australia, optimism exists that Ferguson will realize his potential.

Offensively, Ferguson is a spot-up shooter who continues to grow more confident in his range and ability. He may not be more than 3-and-D player with elite athleticism at the next level, but every team needs players who can shoot and defend.

As the Knicks weigh their long-term options in the backcourt, Jackson would be remiss to ignore how well Ferguson fits the modern NBA game.
