Tyler Dorsey could be fairly compared to five-time NBA champion Derek Fisher. He isn’t the best ball-handler or facilitator available, but he can knock down the 3-point shot with consistency and proved to be one of the most clutch players in the country in 2015-16 and 2016-17.

Dorsey is a better athlete and pure shooter than Fisher was, however, and that should make him a top target for Phil Jackson and the New York Knicks.

Dorsey is a debatable facilitator, but he ranked in the 99th percentile of Division I play with 1.19 points per shot off of pick and roll plays. That should keep opposing teams honest, and having Kristaps Porzingis and Willy Hernangomez would give him two solid targets.

Within the triangle offense, which emphasizes ball movement and requires point guards to be able to play without the ball, Dorsey could be the perfect fit.

Some project Dorsey to play shooting guard, and in another system, that’s likely where he’d end up. In the triangle, however, his ability to space the floor would enable the 2017 lottery pick to play more with the ball in their hands.

It may require a slight trade up in the second round, but the Knicks should give consideration to the 2017 NCAA Tournament hero.
