The New York Knicks recently worked out Xavier Musketeers point guard Edmond Sumner. Phil Jackson should select Sumner in the 2017 NBA Draft.

The New York Knicks are generally expected to take a chance on the point guard of the future in the 2017 NBA Draft. New York has been actively evaluating some of the top point guard prospects in this draft class, and could verify the interest at No. 8 overall.

With Phil Jackson proving to value the depth of a draft class, however, the answer for the Knicks may be found outside of the lottery.

New York has met with or scouted the likes of Malik Monk, Frank Ntilikina, and Dennis Smith Jr. in the weeks leading up to the draft. All three point guards could be available at No. 8 overall, but it’s possible that Jackson will opt to select a different player.

According to Ian Begley of ESPN New York, the Knicks recently hosted an alternative option for a pre-draft workout: Xavier Musketeers point guard Edmond Sumner.

This may have flown under the radar, but Sumner is the type of prospect who can be fairly described as a gem.

Sumner is currently ranked as the No. 54 overall prospect by DraftExpress and the No. 38 overall prospect by Chad Ford of ESPN Insider. Expected to be available when the Knicks pick again at No. 44, Sumner heralded as a borderline lottery pick as recently as January.

The question is: Why should the New York Knicks look past Edmond Sumner’s torn ACL and select him in the 2017 NBA Draft?
