Utah Jazz
The Utah Jazz have a chance to make two quality selections at the end of the first round of the 2017 NBA Draft. It currently owns the No. 24 and No. 30 overall draft picks, and thus make for an ideal trading partner.
If the Jazz decide to move one of the two draft picks they possess, then the New York Knicks could be in a position to acquire a selection.
Utah is in danger of losing Gordon Hayward to free agency, and could look to bolster its depth at small forward. Lance Thomas would not only fit Quin Snyder’s scheme from a defensive perspective, but has positional versatility.
Thomas can help the Jazz defend small forwards and stretch 4s, and with an established rim protector in Rudy Gobert, his effectiveness would improve.
For New York, moving up to No. 24 or No. 30 overall would enable Phil Jackson to take a chance on a sleeper of a prospect. It would also net Boris Diaw in this scenario, who has a non-guaranteed deal for 2017-18 and a skill set that would perfectly fit the triangle offense.
Whether the Knicks were to keep Diaw on the roster or release him to clear cap space, this deal would work out for both sides.
