The New York Knicks are reportedly interested in Louisville Cardinals shooting guard Donovan Mitchell. Mitchell is polarizing, but he has star potential.

The New York Knicks are leaving no stone unturned as the 2017 NBA Draft approaches. Team president Phil Jackson is evaluating prominent figures and sleepers, considering trades, and traveling around the country to scout the top prospects in person.

As the Knicks weigh their options on the NBA Draft front, Louisville Cardinals guard Donovan Mitchell is surfacing as a legitimate option.

New York is currently in possession of the No. 8, No. 44, and No. 58 overall selections in the 2017 NBA Draft. It’s been tied to the likes of Malik Monk, Frank Ntilikina, and Dennis Smith Jr., all of whom are projected Top 10 picks.

According to Marc Berman of The New York Post, the Knicks are considering Mitchell as an option at No. 8 overall in the 2017 NBA Draft.

"Donovan Mitchell…has risen on the Knicks’ radar and is being considered for the eighth pick in the draft. According to sources, Mitchell, a Louisville combo guard, has a workout planned with the Knicks in Tarrytown this week."

Phil Jackson and Clarence Gaines Jr. scouted Mitchell at the CAA pro day in California, and will soon host Mitchell for an official pre-draft workout.

Mitchell is currently ranked as the No. 11 overall prospect by DraftExpress and the No. 15 overall prospect by Chad Ford of ESPN Insider. The Knicks, meanwhile, are expected to make a move for a second lottery pick.

The question is: Why should the New York Knicks give consideration to selecting Donovan Mitchell in the 2017 NBA Draft?
