2017 NBA Mock Draft: New York Knicks Embrace The Sleepers
Alternative Options
Villanova Wildcats shooting guard Josh Hart may come off the board before pick No. 44, but if he doesn’t, the New York Knicks should pounce. He’s one of the best on-ball defenders in the 2017 NBA Draft, as well as a well-rounded offensive contributor.
With the ability to space the floor, attack from midrange, drive the lane, and post up, Hart could be the perfect understudy to Courtney Lee.
The second option at the shooting guard position is P.J. Dozier, who provides elite size and intriguing playmaking ability. He stands at just under 6’7″ with a 6’11” wingspan and an impressive 39″ wingspan.
Coupled with the ability to handle the ball, facilitate, and potentially lock players dow, Dozier’s draft profile is beginning to overcome the concerns about his ACL and lackluster jump shot.
The final option here is a point guard who also provides elite size and questions about his knee: Edmond Sumner. Sumner stands at just under 6’6″ with a 6’9″ wingspan, as well as an incredible near 8’7″ standing reach that permits elite defensive potential.
Sumner has flashed the ability to facilitate at a high level, and while his jump shot is inefficient, he has the size and playmaking ability to be a force for Phil Jackson.
